Kae Alexander
Senior, Saint Joseph Catholic School
Kae enjoys reading, drawing, writing, and video editing. She is also skilled in media production and archery. In her free time, she watches cartoons and plays a variety of video games.

Aubrea Caldwell
Sophomore, Lanier High School
Aubrea takes pride in her academic work, with geometry being her favorite subject. She enjoys working on art projects in her free time and has been passionate about art since she was 10 years old, becoming more serious about it in 2022. She finds motivation through her friends and often helps them with homework and projects. At home, she enjoys watching horror films with her mother.

Dion Craft
Junior, Jim Hill High School
Dion is a member of the yearbook staff and plays soccer as a goalkeeper (#41). He is in his third year of the International Baccalaureate program and the first year of its Diploma Program. Dion dedicates much of his time to academics, ensuring he stays on top of assignments. During his sophomore year, he briefly played tuba for the Jim Hill Band of Distinction. In his free time, he writes poetry, listens to music, and enjoys watching wrestling and classic television shows.

Hannah King
Senior, Murrah High School
Hannah serves on the yearbook staff and works for Pleiades, the school’s literary magazine. She also attends Ida B. Wells APAC, where she excels in theatre. In her free time, she enjoys writing, reading, and listening to music. She plans to attend Belhaven University to pursue a career as an actress and author and hopes to start a small business in the future.

Asiah Knotts
Senior, Murrah High School
Asiah enjoys spending time with friends, challenging herself academically, and exploring new extracurricular activities. She is a member of her school's yearbook club, where she collaborates with peers to share student achievements and stories. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, where she takes pride in her pursuit of knowledge and hopes to inspire others who share her academic drive. Outside of school, she enjoys drawing, listening to music, and watching romantic comedies.

ZyQuria McClendon
Junior, Lanier High School
ZyQuria has a passion for learning new skills and meeting new people. She believes that with determination, anything is possible. She developed a love for reading and writing after picking up a Rotten School book in third grade. She balances her academics with participation in programs such as the Global Citizenship Project, the JMMF Young Futurist Project's Youth Advisory Council, United Way’s Youth Ambassadors, and the Youth Leadership Program. When she is not engaged in extracurricular activities, she enjoys reading in her room or spending time with close friends.

Edgar Solis-Diaz
Sophomore, Murrah High School
Edgar is involved in esports and participates in the Upward Bound program, which provides opportunities for academic and personal growth. He briefly participated in speech and debate and discovered a passion for creative expression in middle school when he joined the choir. He currently plays piano and is part of a band with friends, working toward his goal of learning two new songs by the end of January. In addition to music, he is passionate about languages—he speaks English, Spanish, and French fluently and is learning Japanese. His diverse interests allow him to connect with others and challenge himself in new ways.

Laeyla Walters
Junior, Lanier High School
Laeyla has been a member of the tennis and cheer teams for the past two years and participates in academic programs such as the Global Citizenship Project, the Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program, the Youth Leadership Program, and the National Technical Honor Society. In her free time, she enjoys long drives, learning new skills, and reading romance novels. She excels in organization and critical thinking. Through this program, she hopes to become more aware of issues affecting her community and use that knowledge to inspire future leaders.

Taylor McGraw
Executive Director & Co-Founder
Taylor is a longtime advocate for student voice and leadership. Prior to launching The Bell in 2017, he spent five years teaching and coaching in New York City schools.
Under his leadership, The Bell has grown from an upstart podcast project into a thriving nonprofit that has supported hundreds of young people in raising their voices and telling stories about racial and educational inequity.
He is a journalist by training. His writing has appeared in USA Today, The New York Daily News, The Hechinger Report, Mississippi Today and Narratively, among others.
After a decade in New York City, he moved in 2022 to Jackson, Mississippi, where he is growing The Bell’s newest initiative, the Jackson Youth Newsroom.
He has a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from The New School, a Master of Arts degree in Teaching from Relay Graduate School of Education, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy Leadership from the University of Mississippi.
A native of Oxford, Mississippi, he got his start in journalism working for the Oxford High School student newspaper.
Azia Wiggins
Program Manager
Azia, a Jackson native, graduated from Terry High School in 2007 and obtained a bachelor’s degree in forensic science and a minor in psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2013. In 2014, she worked at the University of Mississippi Medical Center as a physician scheduler before going to Mississippi College to get her master’s degree in biological sciences in 2018.
In 2019, Azia started at the Jackson Free Press as an editorial assistant and by 2021, she worked her way up to Voices editor at Mississippi Free Press, a state-wide nonprofit news organization. She then worked as a community organizer with Working Together Mississippi, a state-wide nonprofit focused on building relational power and capacity among interfaith institutions and community leaders in western Hinds county and the Mississippi Delta. Azia is also a 2023 alumnus of the Poynter Institute’s Leadership Academy for Women in Media and a 2024 alumnus for the Change Collective, a national leadership network focused on building up local emerging changemakers.
Azia enjoys great food, music, traveling, singing, learning and trying new things, and being present with family, friends and her furbaby, Khloe.
